Mary joined the James Bay Community Project in 2025 with extensive experience in humanitarian and nonprofit work. Specializing in program design, leadership, and fund development, she is passionate about contributing to the impactful work of JBCP. A proud resident of James Bay for over a decade, Mary is deeply committed to enhancing services that build resilience through connections and strengthen community.

Geraldine joined JBCP in the summer of 2021. Her background in professional writing and communications began with her work in broadcast journalism and publishing in campus-community radio, alongside her under undergraduate studies at the University of Victoria where she completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Poetry. Through her passion for community and volunteerism, she has been involved with a number of non-profits ranging from humanitarian causes, the arts and the natural world. As the Communications Manager she looks forward to supporting JBCP in building community resilience in the James Bay neighbourhood and throughout the Greater Victoria area.

The Family Centre came into being in 1991 thanks to the vision, hard work and commitment of many dedicated JBCP staff, volunteers and community members. Nancy’s first introduction to JBCP was as a UVic Child and Youth Care student and then as a parent attending programs with her young daughters. Honoured to follow in the footsteps of the amazing Family Centre team, she officially joined JBCP in 2008. It has been a joy to meet so many wonderful families with young children and volunteers over the years. Her role as Family Centre Coordinator is varied but her favourite part is connecting with families in any one of our morning playgroups. She is continually inspired by families’ resilience, kindness, and creativity in navigating the joys and challenges of parenting young children. When she’s not at JBCP, you may find Nancy in the forest or at the beach walking many of the beautiful trails around Greater Victoria with her family and friends thinking about how lucky she is to live here.

Sanni grew up in Germany and moved to Canada in her 20s. She got her BA in Child and Youth Care at UVic, plus certificates in ECE (Early Childhood Education) and Special Needs Care.

She came to JBCP in 2016 as a substitute drop-in facilitator. At the time, the Better at Home program coordinator position at JBCP needed to be temporarily filled, so she did that. Then there was an opening for the receptionist’s occasional coverage, and she tried her hands at that position as well. Since then she has been coming once a week to support Kristyn, the Volunteer Coordinator, with all the odds and ends that need to be done, from administrative tasks to food rescue distribution, cleaning and organizing; sometimes she substitutes at playgroups or family dinner. She feels lucky to have tried out so many different positions at the Project as she enjoys wearing different hats, getting to know some of the clientele here and there, and doing a bit of everything. She enjoys working for such a well-run agency with friendly, relaxed, down-to-Earth staff, where everyone’s focus is on supporting others and building community.

Her other work is with the 1Up Single Parent Resource Centre where she runs a program for single mothers. When not at work, she takes her dog for walks and spends time with friends and family, which include her two amazing grown sons. She enjoys reading, biking, animals, being in nature, and playing guitar and singing – which she sometimes gets to do for the Seniors at the JBCP community luncheon.

Sharon started her career in social services in Scotland over thirty years ago, graduating from Strathclyde University as a Social Worker. She continued training and studying at various institutions including Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge, while being employed in the first Care Commission for Scotland. She continued to improve social services to participants and their families, by working closely with politicians, senior managers, practitioners, and participants to implement the (Self -directed Support) (Scotland) Act 2013.

She immigrated with her family to Canada in 2015. She joined our team in 2018 and is currently the outreach worker for James Bay Community Project. She is passionate about helping seniors in the community, to build resilience and to support them to live at home for as long as possible. “Helping seniors in my community, and connecting them to programs and services, and developing strong relationships is the foundation of what I do.”

Out with work she enjoys dragon boat racing and outrigger paddling, enjoying nature at its best.

Joelle Rempel is the Capital City Volunteers Outreach Worker at JBCP. She was born and raised in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and received her training at the University of Regina. Joelle has been with the Project since 2020. Besides providing outreach to seniors in the Greater Victoria area, Joelle runs a weekly coffee club here at JBCP. When she’s not at work, she likes to spend time with her partner and daughter, garden, swim and listen to records.
